With the help of her children, most of whom still live in the Frisco area, 84-year-old Garza was the first to apply for housing rehabilitation assistance from a Community Development Block Grant administered through the city of Frisco. Frisco Mayor Mike Simpson and other city officials and Garza’s family held a ribbon cutting ceremony last Saturday to celebrate the completion of the first home renovation done with the grant funds. The city of Frisco still has $200,000 in the housing rehabilitation program to help other home owners in Frisco who qualify. City of Frisco Housing Coordinator Stacy Brown said she is anxious to get the word out about the availability of the CDBG money. The city does not plan to do a ribbon cutting for every home that is renovated as part of the housing rehabilitation program. read more
