A spokeswoman for the Department of Fair Trading said six calls had been received from people building Beechwood Homes in Sutherland Shire. NSW Fair Trading Minister Linda Burney said administrators were trying to engage other builders to complete projects already under way and urged tradespeople and those building houses not to panic and terminate contracts with the builder. Several rival builders, including Masterton Homes and Wincrest Homes, have also offered to take over contracts and give discounts where deposits have been paid but work had not yet started. She said the Department of Fair Trading’s website stated claims for incomplete work were limited to 20 per cent of the contract price, or a maximum of about $40,000, not the $300,000 the Government claimed last week. read more
