The New South Wales Opposition says the state’s Fair Trading Minister is misleading clients of the collapsed Beechwood Homes by telling them they can claim up to $300,000 under the home warranty scheme. Receivers have been called into Beechwood Homes after the project home building company was placed into voluntary administration earlier this week. Opposition fair trading spokeswoman Catherine Cusack says Fair Trading Minister Linda Burney is giving false hope to hundreds of people who face losing substantial amounts of money. The Master Builder’s Association says the 300 people who have homes under construction with Beechwood could be waiting a long time before they can make insurance claims. The association’s NSW executive director, Brian Seidler, says insurance claims cannot be made until the company is liquidated but that will not happen until there is an attempt to find a buyer. He says insurance companies pride themselves on checking that a company is financially solid before offering insurance. read more
