The NSW Government has been fielding complaints against one of the state’s biggest project home builders for years, but appears to have done nothing to investigate Beechwood Homes before the company’s possible collapse this week. In the past three years the Office of Fair Trading has received 119 complaints about Beechwood, which is owned by the millionaire businessman and thoroughbred breeder Larry King. As many as 700 home owners could be burnt by Beechwood’s receivership - 400 who have paid deposits and 300 who have begun building their homes - and possibly thousands of tradesmen who have worked on unfinished Beechwood project homes. At a press conference yesterday, the Minister for Fair Trading, Linda Burney, said no complaints about Beechwood had been made to her department, as far as she knew. read more
