The dangers described in the water company mailing are “very overblown,” said Tom Drexler, owner of Tom Drexler Plumbing and president of the Louisville Association of Plumbing-Heating-Cooling Contractors. Jefferson County plumbing permits for January showed 47 for service-line replacements, he said, and Drexler estimated that an equal number of line repairs might be needed, although those records aren’t kept. Chad Carlton, a spokesman for Metro Mayor Jerry Abramson, who appoints the water board, said the mayor’s office hasn’t received any complaints about the solicitation. Williams, a Louisville businessman and water company customer, objected to the use of the water company name and credibility to promote a commercial service. He also said a pamphlet explaining the service was a misleading “scare tactic” because it depicts a waterline leak spraying, geyser-like, above the roofline of a house. read more
