Japanese notebook PC vendor Toshiba today announced the release of the first HD DVD-recordable notebook computer in the Qosmio G45-AV680. The new high-end consumer notebook computer features Toshiba’s own HD DVD-R/DVD-multi drive that will write HD DVD-R media. The G45 features a high-definition 17-inch LCD screen with 1920×1200-pixel resolution, which it believes is ideal for HDTV however a quick look at the screen specifications show that its fairly average viewing angles of 140-degrees horizontally and 110-degrees vertically may make external display options a better alternative. But if you prefer your home entertainment on a larger scale, the HD DVD-R drive combines with the HDTV tuner and HDMI output will enable you to watch HD DVD movies and HDTV on your large-screen television. As for the rest of the components, the G45 starts with Microsoft’s Windows Vista Ultimate edition, which combines its Windows Media Center well with the HDTV tuner option that comes bundled with the unit. The optical drive is expected to be a Toshiba-sourced unit and the company claims it not only burns HD DVD-R media but also everything from CD-R through to DVD-RAM and dual/double-layer DVD-recordable discs although not at sparkling speeds. read more
